Shout and The Mix Ambassador Amy Hudson and her partner Kyle have broken the Guinness World Record for the fastest couple to cycle around the world, while raising more than £54,000 for our services.

The couple set off from Derby on 1 May with a goal to cycle 18,000 miles across continents in under 150 days. However, they returned to Derby earlier than expected on the morning of 2 September, completing the challenge in just 124 days - 81 days faster than the previous record of 205 days.

Amy's story

Behind the record attempt is a much more personal motivation.

Amy previously worked as a mental health nurse before leaving her role following a mental health breakdown in 2021. After Kyle bought her a bike, cycling became an important part of her recovery. It initially gave her a way to clear her mind during one of the hardest periods of her life, but eventually became a source of purpose, community and a reason to keep getting up each day.

Now, Amy has taken on the world-record challenge to inspire others going through similar struggles. Her message is that hard times can make you stronger - that even when getting up each day feels incredibly difficult, you can keep going. She credits her own experience with mental health difficulties for helping to build the strength and resilience that now allows her to ride the distances she does.

“This challenge isn’t easy, but it was never meant to be. I’m so glad we took the leap to go for this, despite all my worries leading up to it. There was a time I didn’t want to be in the world, but I’m here, and hopefully this challenge will help more people stay.”

Determined to break the world record, Amy and Kyle have been getting up at 4am and cycling up to 180 miles - 10 to 12 hours - almost every day.

But during their return to Canada, a car unfortunately cut off both Amy and Kyle so close that it caused Kyle to fall off his bike and be injured. Despite the pain, Kyle hopped back onto his bike with the grit to smash this challenge, which they did, with 26 days ahead of their target of circumnavigating the globe in under 150 days.

We are so proud that Amy and Kyle have chosen to fundraise for our services off the back of this remarkable challenge. We really appreciate all of their hard work and dedication to supporting mental health in the UK, inspiring others and encouraging open conversations.

"We are so grateful to Amy and Kyle for taking on this incredible challenge for Shout. I have been following their record breaking cycle with so much admiration. They have smashed the record despite extreme cold, extreme heat, difficult roads, sleep deprivation and too many punctures to mention - often cycling 200 miles a day. Just extraordinary.

Throughout the challenge they have continued to share their incredibly positive message about mental health. The £50,000+ they have raised will enable us to be there for thousands more people across the UK when they need us most. We couldn’t be more proud that Amy and Kyle are a part of our community."
