The Data and Evidence Hub is guided and overseen by the Lived Experience Network for Data and Evidence (LEND). This is a group of people with lived experience of mental ill health. LEND ensures that the data we collect, analyse, and share reflects the real experience of the issues we report on, reflects the communities we serve, and is used in ways that are meaningful, ethical, and trustworthy. Their involvement shapes not just what we measure, but how we talk about it.
LEND's 5 Principles
- Start with people, not numbers — Show the human experiences behind the data, not just the statistics.
- Explain the "why", not just the "what" — Include social factors, access, and systemic pressures, alongside lived experience, to add depth and meaning.
- Be open about what we don't know — Acknowledge gaps, limitations, and who might be missing from the data. Be trustworthy.
- Handle data with care and sensitivity — Use sensitive, non-stigmatising language, protect anonymity, and include support where needed.
- Make data clear and accessible — Use simple language, clear visuals, and formats that are easy to understand and engage with.
