Cadent Gas commissioned Mental Health Innovations (MHI) to design a new mental health ‘train the trainer’ programme to help upskill their staff on how to build workplace wellbeing and resilience.
We designed and delivered a programme to support Cadent’s staff who identify as mental health leaders within their organisation with the skills and confidence to hold difficult, sometimes emotional and sensitive conversations with those who might be struggling with their mental health, and to teach them how to effectively train their colleagues on this topic.
The training was based on facilitative learning to translate ideas and theories into real-world change. Delivered as workshops, the training aimed to help attendees engage meaningfully and, through the process of experiential learning, to build resilience and wellbeing, which ultimately serves to enhance workplace performance.
The programme was delivered virtually over two days and was interactive in nature, with plenty of time for breakouts, practice and reflection. Attendees not only underwent the mental health training themselves but, simultaneously, developed their capacity to deliver the training to others. This programme served to both build participants’ capacity for mental health and wellbeing, resilience and supporting each other, and equip attendees to effectively facilitate this personal and professional development in others.
Feedback from a post-training survey was overwhelmingly positive:
- 100% said the training met their expectations and was relevant to their role
- 100% stated that they now feel competent and confident on the course topic
- 100% stated that they now feel more comfortable discussing mental health with colleagues
- 100% would recommend this training to a colleague
- 100% rated the knowledge and quality of the trainer as excellent
